Treva Wheeless’ Art by Treva is well known in Pagosa Springs.
Over the past seven years, Treva’s jewelry art has been displayed at Wild Spirit Gallery, Bull Chic, and most recently at The Artist Within. Treva will be on the tour at Wild Spirit Gallery where she will share her innovative jewelry designs.
After 40 years of family vacations in the Pagosa Springs area, Treva and her husband Barry achieved a lifelong dream when they retired and relocated permanently to Pagosa Springs in 2003. While spending most of their working years in southern Indiana, Treva and her husband were fortunate to have lived in South America in the early ’70s and to have traveled to many places around the world. “Being exposed to many cultures has enhanced my sense of color and style and influenced many of my jewelry designs,” Treva notes.
Treva’s formal training was in interior design and after 30 years of working with color, texture, balance, and perspective, she has been able to use these skills in creating one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
“I work with quality natural stones and gems, pearls, crystals, and high-quality metals,” Treva explains.
Treva lets the materials inspire her designs, be it an interesting focal pieces she found or just the color, texture, and shape of the components.
“My designs incorporate a wide range of themes from simple, delicate, even primitive, to intricate and extravagant,” Treva says. “My favorite pieces are those where I have been able to mix various design elements to make the jewelry more interesting and truly unique.”
Treva’s goal is to make her jewelry bring to the person wearing it as much pleasure and enjoyment as she did in designing and creating the piece.
Treva is among the 25 artists who will be displaying their work on this year’s tour, with all art sales by cash or check. Each studio stop on the tour will also offer an item for lottery drawing. Tickets for the drawing are free with a purchase of the artist’s work or $5 for additional chances to win or for entering the drawing without a purchase. All proceeds from the drawings will go to PSAC.
Tour brochures are available at the PSAC office, the many fine galleries in Pagosa Springs as well as the Chamber of Commerce and many other local businesses. Mark your calendars for Oct. 2 and 3. Enjoy the beauty of Pagosa Springs’ autumn colors while viewing the artwork of many of the area’s talented artists.
