Team Pagosa attends equestrian clinic

LASSO received a check from the Pagosa’s Special Olympic athletes at the conclusion of a recent three-day clinic at the LASSO ranch.

Instructor and Special Olympic coach Jody McAlister has contributed to the equestrian event with the support of the LASSO (Large Animal Southwest Support Association) facility and volunteers for the last four years.

The partnership of Special Olympics and LASSO has been a win-win situation and this year Parelli Natural Horsemanship became a sponsor as well.

The athletes were given a Seven Games DVD donated by Parelli to watch prior to camp. In addition, equipment needed to work the Seven Games and ride the volunteer horses was supplied by Parelli. A surprise visit from Pat Parelli, his son, Caton, and Lauren Barwick, a Paralympic gold and silver medalist in dressage, gave the athletes an opportunity to learn more about the Seven Games and spend time in the arena with the three visitors. Awards to the athletes, sponsors and volunteers concluded the three-day event.
