Two bodies found in rental property on County Road 359

Archuleta County law enforcement officials discovered two bodies Monday in a rental property south of Pagosa Springs on County Road 359 (Coyote Park Road) following a call requesting they check the residence.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 11 a.m. Det. George Barter and Special Investigator Harry Harris responded to the scene, as did Archuleta County Coroner Carl Macht.

It was determined that the deaths occured some time after midnight Saturday, and that they were not related to last week’s jail break at the Archuleta County Detention Center and the activities that followed at sites near CR. 359.

The bodies of two out-of-state renters were discovered at the house. Release of identities as well as the causes of death are pending completion of the coroner’s investigation.

A Durango-based forensics team from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene to handle the processing of evidence and the residence was cleared at approximately 7:20 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.
