High Country Squares host New Mexico Northwest District Dance

The High Country Squares hosted the New Mexico Northwest District Dance last week at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse.

The caller was Grace Wheatley of Gallop, N.M. Other callers in attendance were Jim Park (Pagosa), Lloyd Husted (Farmington), Louis Norton (Durango) and Mike Kelly (Kansas City).

Square dancers came from various clubs in Colorado (Durango, Cortez, Monte Vista, Alamosa, and Grand Junction), New Mexico (Farmington, Santa Fe and Albuquerque), Michigan, Florida, Kansas and Oregon.

The High Country Squares are now teaching Plus level dancing to current members. They will graduate in November with a Harvest Dance and party.

If you are a square dancer and need to brush up on your Plus maneuvers, you are welcome to join the group at any time. They dance on Monday evenings at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse, with Plus lessons from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by Mainstream and Plus dancing from 7:30 to 9.

The High Country Squares will host a Caller’s Dance on July 31. All area callers will be calling tips that evening. It will be held at the Parish Hall on Lewis Street in Pagosa Springs, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All experienced square dancers are invited.
