Intermediate players can register for youth tennis program

The July session of youth tennis is nearly full, with only three openings for intermediate-level players still available.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and are also available through a link on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com. Registrations will be accepted at the recreation until 5 p.m. Friday.

Players with previous experience will be separated from beginners, and the tentative plan is to hold staggered practice sessions Monday through Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Wyndham Resorts courts. The maximum number of participants is limited to 16. The program implements the U.S.T.A. “Quick Start” Tennis Instructional Program. This program adheres to a “play to learn” rather than “learn to play” motto.

Cost to participate is $30. Participants must have nonmarking-soled athletic or tennis shoes. The recreation department has some racquets available, but participants are welcome to use their own equipment.

For more information, call Andy Rice at 264-4151, Ext. 231, or Dale Schwicker, Wyndam Resorts tennis professional, at 731-3363.

Softball

Due to the withdrawal of a team from the men’s softball division, this year’s men’s schedule has undergone a major change.

The new schedule for the men’s division was updated June 17 and has been posted on the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com. The coed schedule remains the same.

Team registration fees are $250, plus a $30 fee per player. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Town of Pagosa Springs. Team managers are reminded that the team fee is due before the start of each team’s first game; each player’s fee is due prior to the player’s second game. Players are reminded that all alcohol and tobacco products are prohibited on school grounds.

For more information call Andy Rice, recreation supervisor, at 264-4151, Ext. 231.

Fireworks

The Town of Pagosa Springs is now accepting tax-deductible donations for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks show.

Donations in any amount will be accepted at the front desk in Town Hall; checks and money orders can be made payable to Town of Pagosa Springs with “fireworks” on the subject line.

For those interested in mailing a contribution, donations should be addressed “Attention: Fireworks” and mailed to P.O. Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. If you would like to make a cash donation, please do so in person at the front desk in Town Hall.

On a related note, the town is also accepting donations to be used for the maintenance and operation of the pump for Pinon Lake Fountain.

The fountain is now running daily from about dawn until dusk, and is tentatively scheduled to run through the end of August, due to generous donations from Wyndham Resorts, Archuleta County and the public.

Anyone interested in making a tax-deductible donation toward the extended operation of the fountain can make checks payable to the Town of Pagosa Springs with “Pinon Lake Fountain” on the subject line.

For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 232.
