The June meeting of the Pagosa Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild will be held June 12 at the Mountain Heights Baptist Church at 1044 Park Ave.
The session will begin with a short business meeting at 10 a.m. and be followed by a special lecture and trunk show featuring Southwest quilting expert Michelle Watts, author of a number of quilting books, including the best selling “Quilts of the Southwest.”
This is a chance to understand where Michelle’s inspiration as quilt artist and designer begins. She will show a unique collection of quilts and wearable art inspired by the beauty of the Southwest, including weaving, pottery, baskets, jewelry, beadwork, tinwork, ironwork, carvings, tile, architecture, churches and other art. Her quilts express a unique passion and personal style reflecting Native American, Spanish, Hispanic and Anglo cultures.
In the afternoon, Michelle will offer a class entitled “Ancient Acoma.” It is a basic machine quilting applique class Students will learn the basics of fusible machine applique. She will show how to create the perfect machine applique stitch and how to turn corners, go around curves, etc. as students work on a single block in a half-day class.
The class is open to anyone, at a modest price.
