Over the past two decades, the pride in our community has increased dramatically.
Improvements in physical infrastructure and cleaner neighborhoods have been occurring every year. This year, Mayor Ross Aragon would like to personally urge you to participate in the Town of Pagosa Springs’ annual Clean-Up Week.
To assist town residents in cleaning up our community, the town will provide a number of special services for residential properties within town limits only (if you are unsure if you reside within the town limits, please call Town Hall at 264-4151).
For example, Dumpsters will be located at 703 South 5th Street within the street department lot fence. This site will be open for dumping from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., May 17-21. Identification will be required; you must be a town resident in order to participate.
In addition, curbside pickup of larger items such as old lumber, branches or appliances placed along the curb or right-of-way will be completed according to the schedule below. No more than one dump truck load per household will be permitted; commercial properties are not eligible to participate.
Monday, May 17 — North 1st Street through North 5th Street.
Tuesday, May 18 — North 5th Street through North 14th Street.
Wednesday, May 19 — San Juan Street/Hot Springs Blvd. through South 6th Street.
Thursday, May 19 — South 7th Street through 10th Street (Garvin Addition).
Friday, May 21 — Bienvenido Street and Piedra Estates.
If residents cannot place items at the curb due to hardships, please call Town Hall at 264-4151, Ext. 238, to coordinate assistance. Town staff will confirm all hardships and will coordinate assistance so that residents can be present during pickup.
Also, please note that town crews will not remove household trash, hazardous materials, engines and appliances with Freon or building/construction materials.
Removal of junk vehicles can be coordinated by calling Rita Prokop, deputy town clerk, at 264-4151, Ext 238. Though town crews will respond to all junk vehicle removal requests, please note that the town cannot guarantee that all removals can be completed. Proof of ownership will be required prior to all junk vehicle removals.
Cemetery cleanup is scheduled for the week of May 24 -May 28. No Dumpsters will be provided at the cemetery.
The Town of Pagosa Springs Police Department will issue nuisance notices to property owners who have junk or litter on their premises after clean up week, so please participate in this year’s event. Your help is essential to making Pagosa Springs a beautiful and healthy community for all.
Rosters for the coach-pitch division (ages 6-8) are being finalized and the assessment for this year’s 9-10 division has been set for Tuesday, May 11, at the high school ball fields.
Participants and coaches in the 9-10 division should report to the fields at 5:30 p.m.; the assessment will run until approximately 6:45 p.m.
All players intending to participate in the assessment should come prepared for basic throwing, hitting and fielding drills, and bring a baseball glove and athletic shoes.
The draft for the 9-10 division will be held Thursday, May 13, at 6 p.m. in Town Hall. All head coaches should attend.
On a related note, there are still not enough participants registered for the 11-12 division to warrant a league this year. The recreation office will accept registrations for this age bracket through the end of the week. However, unless there is a significant amount of additions to this bracket, the league will be canceled and all registered participants will be issued a refund.
Games in all divisions are tentatively scheduled to begin in late May; the season will run through early July. For more information on this year’s program, call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.
Tee ball schedules are available at the recreation office and have also been posted on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.
Weather permitting, games will be played Mondays and Wednesdays at the elementary school soccer fields. Coaches will be notified in advance when games are canceled due to inclement weather or poor field conditions.
For more information regarding this year’s tee-ball season, call the recreation office 264-4151, Ext. 232.
The Town of Pagosa Springs is accepting donations for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks show.
