The new Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM), identifying roads and trails open to motorized travel on the Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest, is now available.
The Motor Vehicle Use Map is the legal document used to enforce travel rules on the Pagosa Ranger District. It does not identify non-motorized recreation opportunities. It implements decisions that resulted from the Pagosa District Travel Management Analysis, designating specific roads and trails open to motorized travel and prohibiting cross-country motorized travel on the Pagosa Ranger District.
The MVUM shows roads and trails where motorized users are allowed to ride, and with what type of motor vehicles. The Motor Vehicle Use Map is best used in conjunction with other recreation-based maps to plan and experience enjoyable rides on legal motorized routes on the Pagosa Ranger District.
The map will be re-issued annually to include any changes to travel management. It is free and is available at San Juan Public Lands offices in Bayfield, Dolores, Durango and Pagosa Springs. It is also displayed online at: www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/recreation/travel_mgmt/mvum/index.shtml.
