2009 represented Pagosa Springs Music Boosters’ 20th year celebration of bringing the performing arts to the community, schools and visitors of Pagosa Springs.
Our mission: “Music Boosters, Pagosa Springs’ Performing Arts Company, produces music and theatrical entertainment in support of performing arts education in our schools and community.”
This mission is translated into contributions to the community in a variety of ways. Pagosa Springs Music Boosters, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, turns all of its profit back to our schools and community through a give-back philosophy that includes scholarships, instruments, supplies, equipment and performing arts programs.
Our primary ongoing financial support and responsibility is to our scholarship program, which supports selected college students majoring in one of the areas of the performing arts. We currently proudly support five local students furthering their education in Colorado, Boston and Utah.
Pagosa Springs Music Boosters has been in service to our schools, community, students and visitors of all ages since 1989 when the organization was established. The year 2010 will bring our 50th production to the town of Pagosa Springs. We continue to collaborate with the town and county in our planning production in order to reach the highest number of visitors and locals alike.
As with other non-profits in our town, Music Boosters is experiencing financial challenges due to the current nationwide economic situation, with a budget 40 percent less than normal. Typical donations are down; production expenses have almost tripled over the past eight years, with the highest increases being reflected in theatrical royalties and rentals, which average about $6,000 per show.
Our immediate financial future is dependent on community and individual sponsorships for our 2010 season, which will include the well-known Broadway musical “Annie.” Production of large-scale musicals we have performed over the years such as “Oklahoma,” “Fiddler On The Roof,” “The Sound of Music,” “Oliver” and others bring in the largest audiences and produce the highest revenues. However, they also carry the highest production costs.
For the first time, we need sponsorships in order to continue our performing arts education and outreach into the community; to offer college scholarships to our local graduates; to support our service program in our schools and town, and to cover our own monthly costs.
In recent weeks we have received several donations for 2010 sponsorships. Please help ensure that Music Boosters is able to bring “Annie” to Pagosa this summer!
