SHY RABBIT ArtistsNet, artists helping artists

Launched in June of 2008, SHY RABBIT ArtistsNet is an association of artists who value arts education and advocate for “artists helping artists” in developing viable, sustainable, professional futures.

The true strength of this association is in the combined resources of the individual artists, allowing for the expansion and promotion of this cooperative support network.

Participation in ArtistsNet has paved the way for individual advancement through the design and distribution of thousands of printed mailers, introducing ArtistsNet associates and their work to a nationwide audience.

ArtistsNet associates work is also featured on the SHY RABBIT Web site at www.shyrabbit.com/ArtistsNet.html with links to their individual ArtistsNet pages and personal Web sites.

The 14 associates who were invited to participate in the newly-launched SHY RABBIT ArtistsNet 2.0 have also been instrumental in the development and support of WORK-shops@SHY RABBIT.

This innovative marketing strategy has proven to be very successful to date, generating the sale and the commission of artwork by the founding ArtistsNet associates, as well as those new to ArtistsNet 2.0.

As one of the original ArtistsNet 2.0 associates, Bayfield artist, Juanita Ainsley, has gained a much larger audience for her colorful and compelling mixed media monoprints as a result of her participation, and has had great success at building a strong and growing collector base.

“For years I have gone through first one approach to painting/drawing, then another and another, most for private enjoyment and that urge, that just won’t quit, to make art,” states Ainsley.

“But I have always been searching for an approach that would allow me to have free reign and use whatever techniques I wanted, at any time I wanted, successfully.

“When I began Michael Coffee’s printing workshops, we were asked what we wanted to get out of the experience. I wanted or hoped for a new way to go about the various approaches I have always enjoyed, something to pull it all together, with a whole new end result.

“I never anticipated how much that goal would be realized”, Ainsley continues. “These workshops and Michael’s own approach to teaching, especially his encouragement of individual expression, risk and difference, has opened doors for me. I find many of my old approaches and the printmaking new ones pushing and vying for expression all at the same time, like creatures being released from confinement, not waiting for permission.

“My job and challenge is to keep havoc at bay.

“These pieces are entertaining to make and, I hope, to view as well,” Ainsley concludes.
