PSAC featured artist
Donna Merchant-Crooks is a professional artist and woodcarver. She works in a plethora of mediums and is accomplished in each of them.
Donna has a kinship with nature, where she finds solace and inspiration. She spent years cooking and pulling mule strings in Idaho’s Frank Church wilderness, developing an appreciation for the rare and untouched views of life. Today Donna’s wilderness is the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado. She sparks her creativity by fishing, hiking and horseback riding.
Donna is self-taught. Ask her if she has worked in a particular medium and if she hasn’t, she’ll reply, “not yet.” She believes a person can do anything in increments. Her work proves this.
Donna is currently building a body of work that reflects themes about women . . . their challenges, their joys, their friendships, their empowerment. Her pieces provoke a range of emotion and contemplation. She chose bronze as the medium for this body of work. Her first bronze, “Moon River” is shown at Handcrafted Interiors in Pagosa Springs.
To view more of Donna’s artwork visit Wild Spirit Gallery and her Web site, www.merchant-crooks.com.

The Pagosa Photo Club is pleased to present the DVD “Ansel Adams.” Few American artists have enjoyed more widespread popularity while alive than Ansel Adams. A visionary photographer, pioneer in technique, and environmental crusader, Adams took part in a revolution in photography, and in the ways he saw “the continuous beauty of the things that are.” Ric Burns’ film biography of Adams is an intimate portrait of a man for whom life and art were inextricably connected with photography and wilderness.
A monthly photo theme exhibit is held during each club meeting. The two categories are the Theme Category and the Open Category where any subject is allowed. This month’s theme is “Black and White.” Members may enter as many as three prints or digital images, but no more than two in either category. President T. J. Reynolds will lead the critique of photos. This will be done as a group rather than have specific judges.
The Photo Club meets the second Wednesday of each month during the club year from September through May at 6 p.m. at the community center Arts and Crafts Room. Interested photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend at no charge for the first meeting. Any and all are invited to join for annual dues of $20 for single individuals and $30 for family membership. For more information, contact Reynolds at email@example.com or 731-9681.
