The format for this year’s tournament will be a little different than years past; categories will include largest trout, bass, crappie and perch by weight. There will be cash prizes for winners in each category. We’ll have some burgers and hot dogs on the grill and it should be a fun day on the lake. Parking will be available on Northshore Circle, which is located off of Northlake Avenue on the north side of the lake and additional parking will be available at the boat ramp area located off of Lakeside Drive. Please carpool if possible, due to limited parking.
Well, we are halfway through the first month of the New Year.
Those who have set a goal to achieve a higher level of fitness are still hard at it. The recreation center is a busy hub these days. This is a good sign of a budding sense of sobriety in our country. Usually the “New Year’s Resolution” crowd at the rec center loses its motivation after a week.
Add to all these bodies in motion are brisk sales of 2010 recreation center memberships and fishing permits. A current membership is necessary to continue use of the facility. Otherwise, a daily fee or punch card applies.
Members of PLPOA will be receiving their 2010 assessment statements within the next week or so. Payment is due upon receipt.
The PLPOA monthly board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse. This meeting is open to members and observers.
There will be a special guest speaker before the board meeting — at 6 p.m. Navy Captain (Ret.) Bill McKown, Stevens Field airport manager, will talk about an air show here in Pagosa Springs. Slated for Aug. 13-14, this is an air show involving highly-skilled aerial maneuvers. McKown would also like to talk about his passion for aviation and his plans for bringing this exciting event to our town. Bring the family; there will be a question and answer period after the presentation.
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, Wolf Creek Ski Area is sponsoring a “Ski and Save Day.” This is the annual United Way Ski Day to benefit United Way in Archuleta County. Lift tickets are discounted — only $42 for adults and $24 for seniors and children. The ski area will donate a portion of the proceeds to support local United Way agencies. Great reason for getting your skis waxed: support our local ski area, save a few bucks and help United Way raise funds to support human service agencies benefiting our community. And get some fresh air and exercise!
