Emma Jean Hart, “Jean,” was born Oct. 7, 1931. She passed from this earth on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at home.
She was a resident of Albuquerque, N.M., and Pagosa Springs, where she had a second home, her cabin. Jean was active in church in Albuquerque and Colorado.
Jean will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, friend and all around matriarch. She proudly worked for the University of New Mexico Library, having retired in 1997. Jean loved to travel in and around Europe and thoroughly enjoyed discovering new family connections in England. As well, she loved to attend Hartshom Family reunions. Jean cherished preserving valuable and irreplaceable heirlooms, and collecting any and all things with a chicken motif.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward James Hart; and by her second husband Ernie Chavez; and her son, Robert A. Hart. Jean is survived by two sons, Roger Hart and wife Tracy of Loveland, Colo., and Rodney Hart, and daughter-in-law Allyson Hart of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Ashley, Allyssa, Avalon and Addison; brother, Donald Hartshom and wife, Ginette, of California; and a host of extended family members and many dear friends who loved and will miss her. A memorial service was held in Albuquerque at Central United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010.
