Thank you PLPOA rec center for letting the Pagosa Lakes Porpoises and Pagosa Pirates cross country team host the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Thanks to Ming, Todd, Harry and the staff who helped with registration and event details. What a gorgeous day and a successful event. Thank you sponsors: Wolf Creek Ski Area, Hampton Construction, Briliam Engineering, The Rose Restaurant, Pagosa Chiropractic, Pagosa Springs Inn and Suites, Cafe Colorado, Jody McAlister, Home Again, Old West Press and Strohecker Asphalt and Paving. Your support of these youth programs is much appreciated by team members, parents and coaches. We hope to see you all next year.
The Fall Book Fair “Destination Book Fair! — Read Around the World!” held during the two weeks prior to Thanksgiving was an outstanding success! Gross sales were $9,127.24, which translates into a cash profit for the school of over $3,000. This year, Book Fair proceeds will be used to purchase new pieces of playground equipment.
Thank you to all of the students, teachers, parents, relatives and friends who shopped at the Book Fair and for all the excitement about the event. It would be impossible to put on this two-week event without all of our willing and able volunteers. Huge gratitude goes to 38 individuals who decorated, unpacked and packed boxes, sorted books and staffed the cash register: Cheryl Bowdridge, Kendra Bridges, Stacy Castro, Devyn Doctor, Ronnie Doctor, Stacy Foster, Holly Fulbright, Jean Garcia, Lisa Heitz, Marsha and Jack Hill, Lindsey Hoover, Kim Hunt, Becky Jacobson, Mark Johnson, Lara Khung, Kim Laverty, Stacey Lewis, Jan Lewis, Sheryl Machadl, Butch Mackey, Debbie Mackey, Jode McKee, Carol Nasralla, Margaret Pajak, Dakota Ross, Karen Ross, Kristen Roth, Lisa Scott, Todd Shulda, Michelle Smith, Melissa Snarr, Lucille Stretton, Cathy Strohecker, Gwen Taylor, Becky Thompson, Kelly Wilderson and Michelle Zeigler.
Thanks to the loan from Paint Connection Plus, the event was advertised and celebrated with a replica hot air balloon on the roof of the school. Special thanks go to Steve Laverty, Hal Lowe and Tim Miller for helping with moving and installation. As always, we’d like to thank the school custodians, Jim Sellers, Jack Constant and Raymond Taylor, for their assistance outside of their regular duties.
Additionally, the school library received $400 worth of new books and $125 of resource materials. By hosting two book fairs in one school year, the library is entitled to an additional $700 of books that can be taken from the inventory at the spring fair in April. Thanks to everyone for making this school event star-rated!

Throughout the year, local residents in need of food are welcomed at the Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry. This time of year, the needs are especially high, and we extend a huge thank you to three special organizations. The generosity of the Community Center Halloween Food Drive, the Pagosa Mountain Hospital Thanksgiving Food Drive and the La Plata Electric Thanksgiving Food Drive (over 1,000 pounds of food from the La Plata participants!) really helped us keep the pantry shelves stocked. The time, effort and hard work of everyone involved is greatly appreciated.
Bless all of you for your thoughtfulness!
