Everyone is looking for a deal or a special, or something for nothing.
Pagosa merchants are meeting almost every one of these wishes during the fourth annual Parade of Stores, happening Dec. 4 and 5.
This is the weekend to visit Pagosa or to stay in Pagosa and shop, shop, shop.
The 2009 Parade of Stores adds a new benefit to the shopping extravaganza: it’s the Super Pagosa Prize Package.
How do you qualify to win?
Easy — just shop!
When you buy from Parade of Stores merchants on either Friday, Dec. 4, or Saturday, Dec. 5, you can come down to the Chamber and exchange your receipts for chances to be entered into the Prize Package Drawing.
For every $10 you spend, you will receive one chance to enter. Therefore, the more you spend, the more chances you have in the prize drawing. It’s that simple. Receipts must be from participating Parade of Stores merchants. Parade of Stores posters are hung in the participating stores and listed on the frequent stamp program.
The Super Pagosa Prize Package includes a two-night stay at the suite section of The Springs Resort (with 24 -hour soaking privileges), Wolf Creek Ski Area passes, restaurant coupons, massages, gifts and more. This is a great deal for your family, or for family or friends who might be visiting. If you are visiting Pagosa, enter to win this package so you have the opportunity to come back to Pagosa ... on us!
The other Parade of Stores program in effect Dec. 4-5 is the frequent stamp program that has been offered the past three years. It, too, is simple: pick up a frequent shopper stamp card at the Chamber or at any participating store. There are over 40 stores involved this year, so there are lots of places to obtain a card. Visit the stores and get your card stamped. No purchase is necessary to participate in this program, but don’t let that stop you from shopping! When you have finished shopping on both of these days, turn your card in at the last store you visit, or at the Chamber of Commerce. You will need to get 20 stamps this year in order to qualify for the more than 40 prizes donated by participating retail merchants. You can get stamps all over town. The community is not broken down into sections as it was in the past.
Another great advantage this year is that the Mountain Express bus will run just for the Parade of Stores. Park your car at one end of town and let Mountain Express do the driving for you. Save on gas, don’t worry about finding parking and enjoy the various open houses and celebrations that many of the stores will host, without having to worry about driving. The special bus will be marked with a big red bow on the front grill and it will run Friday and Saturday. We are grateful that Mountain Express has offered this service, especially to people who might not be able to normally get out, shop and enjoy this special event.
The Parade of Stores is a large part of Christmas in Pagosa. Stay in Pagosa and purchase unique gifts, clothing, household goods, tools, outdoor gear and larger ticket items such as electronics, hot tubs, flooring, granite, furniture and much more — and all at “no tax” discounts. Many of the stores are also offering additional specials, discounts and open houses. This is not the weekend to go out of town and shop; stay in Pagosa, support your fellow residents and take advantage of a wonderful weekend. For more information on the Parade of Stores, call the Chamber at 264-2360.
More Perks for Pagosa
Everyone has a family member or friend who is hard to buy for. We have the answer for you. There are two local programs that leave the choice of using the gift in the hands of the recipient.
The Archuleta County United Way agency is offering restaurant gift certificates. Certificates are in $25 increments and can be used at 20 restaurants. The restaurants give $5 from each certificate to United Way, so this is a win-win experience for everyone — the restaurants get the sale, United Way receives a donation of money that then stays in Archuleta County, and the certificate purchaser gets a great meal. Certificates area available at the Chamber.
Another great program that keeps your dollars local and allows the “hard-to-buy-for” recipient the opportunity to make their own gift choice is the Chamber’s Pagosa Perks. These are local shopping dollars that can be used at hundreds of businesses in Pagosa. Pagosa Perks come in $10 and $20 increments and spend just like cash. They can be used for basic goods and services such as groceries, gas or utilities, or they can be used to splurge on movies, restaurants, massages, hot springs soaking and numerous other Pagosa services.
We have heard there are businesses that won’t accept Pagosa Perks. If this happens, the business owner is losing a sale, because Pagosa Perks are treated just like cash. They are guaranteed in value, businesses can give change from them, and they can be deposited just like checks. There should be no reason not to accept this money. Perks are local dollars that can only be spent in Pagosa, increasing their value as they support local business. If you are a business owner and you encounter a Pagosa Perk and do not know how to handle it, please complete the sale, accept the money, then call the Chamber so we can answer any questions you might have.
Put the gift choice in the hands of the recipient by offering Pagosa Perks this season. If you have a friend or family member coming to Pagosa, send them some Perks so they can enjoy Pagosa services when they visit. Give Pagosa Perks as bonuses, a holiday thank you to employees, a teacher or your volunteers. For more information, call the Chamber at 264-2360.
