Prescribed burns to continue today

The Columbine Ranger District will continue a prescribed burn today in the First Notch area of the San Juan National Forest.

Fire crews plan to ignite 60 acres about two miles north of the Yellowjacket Pass area of U.S. 160 between Bayfield and Pagosa Springs. The goal is to reduce hazardous fuels buildup and improve wildlife habitat.

Pagosa Ranger District of San Juan Public Lands will conduct a 61-acre prescribed burn today on the Vigil and Abeyta Mesas. The burn is on Bureau of Land Management lands roughly 10 miles northeast of Dulce, 18 miles northwest of Chama, two miles southwest of Chromo, and 25 miles south of Pagosa Springs.
