The Pagosa Springs Arts Council board and local artists invite all PSAC members and their families to make ornaments for the Arts Council’s Festival of Trees entry.
The ornament workshops will give members the opportunity to work with area artists and learn new skills and techniques in a variety of art media.
We will have food and drinks, music and lots of festive cheer! The cost of the workshops is $15 per participant, per workshop, to help defray the cost of materials.
The following workshops will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Ross Aragon Community Center: Linda Echterhoff — Ribbon Filled Glass Ornaments (great for young children); Carol Schneider — Bead Embroidery Ornaments; Pagosa Pottery — Hand Painted Clay Ornaments (great for young children); and Sueyel Grace — Hand Painted Gourd Ornaments.
Register now for one, two or all four workshops by calling Carol Schneider at 731-0526 or by e-mailing Carol at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration deadline is Saturday, Nov. 14. Payments can be made at the workshop.
Art sponsors needed
The juried art exhibit will continue to hang at Pagosa Mountain Hospital through Dec. 11.
We encourage anyone who is interested to consider becoming a sponsor and to purchase one or more of the unsold art works on display for donation to the permanent art collection of the Pagosa Mountain Hospital and Clinic.
You, as a sponsor, will be recognized through media attention, as well as with a plaque, if you desire.
To sponsor an artwork, contact: Roxanne Schick, administrative coordinator Pagosa Springs Arts Council 264-5020 or Linda Echterhoff, Pagosa Springs Arts Council board president, 946-3693.
Local artist wins award
Local jewelry artist and PSAC board member Carol Schneider won second place in the mixed media category in the Interweave Press 2009 Bead Art Awards.
Her winning entry can be seen in the November/December issue of Step-by-Step Beads.
The winning piece, titled “Wrigley’s Vine,” was inspired by and created in loving memory of Carol’s mother, who was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. “Wrigley’s Vine” will be on display at Artisans of the Southwest Gallery and Wine Tasting next to Farrago’s downtown.

Plein Air Painters to paint Town Park Gallery
Linda Echterhoff, the president of the PSAC, has asked our group to paint the current PSAC Gallery in Town Park. She would like to have some paintings for “remembrance.”
So, mark your calendar; we will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Town Park at the PSAC Gallery to paint. Be sure to dress warmly if it’s chilly that day.
PSAC is proud to be the parent organization for Plein Air Painters. This fun group meets at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at a predetermined location. Painters who work in any media are welcome. This group offers a wonderful opportunity for artists and art enthusiasts alike to share tips, ideas and resources. If the weather is nice, the group paints outdoors. If the weather is bad, the group paints in the community center Arts and Crafts Room. Please keep in mind that turpentine-based painting materials cannot be used in the community center. Please call Jean Shah 264-0188, if you need more information.
The Pagosa Springs Arts Council sponsors and manages workshops in the Arts and Crafts Room at the Ross Aragon Community Center. From the outset, the Arts Council has been a partner and supporter of the community center. All of the workshop classes are held in the Arts and Crafts Room at the center. Call PSAC at 264-5020 to register for any of the classes and pre-registration is required. The next PSAC Workshop is Beading with Elizabeth Claire Baldwin, on Dec. 5. The cost is $35 plus materials.
