“If you need it, take it,” will be the philosophy of members of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church this Saturday, Oct. 24, at their annual clothing giveaway.
This event, which is open to the public, will take place 8 -11 a.m. in the church’s parish hall, located at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd.
Tables containing enormous stacks of winter clothing, all sorted into the appropriate categories and sizes, will include clothes for men, women, boys, girls and infants.
In addition to clothes, there will also be winter coats, sweaters, shoes and gloves. Clothing that is not in good condition is discarded prior to the event, so that those who come will be assured of finding clothing that should hold up through the season. Church members will distribute shopping bags at the door.
“We have received a great number of donations for this giveaway and we feel confident that there will be plenty of clothing, in a wide variety of styles and sizes to go around,” said event coordinator Teri Sullivan. “The church has seen a significant increase in the number of people seeking help this year due to economic hardships, so we sincerely hope to have a large turnout.”
According to Sullivan, there are no eligibility requirements or referrals necessary for those who come, nor is there a limit on how much can be taken. “We want all who need the clothes to come and pick out whatever they want. This is a free gift, no strings attached.”
“It is our aim for St. Patrick’s to be a mission-minded parish,” said Rev. Doug Neel, rector of St. Patrick’s. “We take our service to the community and to all of God’s children very seriously as we seek to provide opportunities for others to experience the love of Christ through our actions.”
St. Patrick’s is located at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd., next to the hospital.
