USFS to burn forest slash piles

Beginning Nov. 1 and continuing through spring of 2010, fire managers will burn piles of slash that remain from fuels reductions projects at several locations within the Pagosa Ranger District.

Slash piles are located:

• North of Pagosa Springs in the Turkey Springs area near the guard station, within the upper Piedra near Sportsman’s Store, and in Chub Draw.

• West of Pagosa Springs within the Chimney Rock Archaeological Area, at Ute Campground, and north and south of the U.S. 160 near Devil Creek Road.

• Northeast of Pagosa Springs at East Fork Campground.

Timing of the burns will depend upon staffing, weather and ground moisture conditions.
