Early Detection Week, held during the week of Sept. 21 at the Pagosa Mountain Early Detection Clinic, was a huge success.
More than 400 people came to the clinic, both full-time and part-time residents and of all age groups, for various blood tests, such as prostate screening, thyroid tests, metabolic panels, liver functions and more.
More than 380 individuals came for the free cardiac screen.
Informative articles about health and wellness issues were given out to each individual who came through the clinic’s doors, and speakers gave lectures in the evenings about specific health issues.
None of this would have been possible without grant funding from the Colorado Prevention Center and the many staff members and volunteers who came to help.
Also, during the same week, the Upper San Juan EMT Association signed up more than 200 people for The Pagosa Fitness Challenge, which will conclude in December. Winners losing the largest percentage of body weight will receive prizes for their efforts.
We would like to congratulate the community for taking the first step toward being in charge of their health.
