Local artist Kathleen Steventon’s large oil painting “Trio I” has won Best-in-Show at the nationally juried “Furs, Feathers, & Fins” art exhibition at the Parklane Gallery in Redmond, Wash.
Steventon’s expressionistic work depicts the profiled heads of three horses in brilliant colors of blues, oranges, creams and reds. The juror, Julie T. Chapman, is a highly recognized contemporary Western artist whose work has been featured multiple times in Southwest Art magazine. “Furs, Feathers, & Fins” focuses on the animal theme, and a percentage sales at the show will go directly to animal shelter groups in the Redmond area.
Steventon’s thick impasto layered works continue to explore the world of animals. She recently exhibited at Art in the Garden in Pagosa Springs, and currently has a large painting at Denver International Airport as part of the Colorado Council for the Arts program. Steventon is represented locally by Wild Spirit Gallery in Pagosa Springs, and also at the Blackbird Gallery in Albuquerque, N.M.
