It’s time again for the annual Fire Department Safety Carnival and Open House.
This year, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 10, at Fire Station No. 1, located at 191 N. Pagosa Blvd., two blocks north of U.S. 160.
Firefighters will demonstrate rescue techniques and fire equipment, and will instruct attendees on how to use fire extinguishers.
The kids will have an opportunity to tour the Safety House and the firehouse, as well as participate in some fire safety-oriented games like the softball throw, the fire glove ring toss, the duck drop, a race wearing fire boots and the safety hop cupcake walk.
Fire apparatus will be on display and the firehouse chefs will prepare chili and hot dogs for everyone.
Firefighters will be on hand to explain fire safety issues for the home, answer questions about smoke alarms, fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and deal with other issues of interest and importance — so make sure to make it a point to be there for all the fun activities, food and opportunities to learn about fire safety in your community.
