The staff, board of directors and partner families of Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County would like to thank and recognize the following businesses for their support at our Tool Belts and Tiaras Gala and fund-raiser: Citizens Bank and Farrago Market Café, Platinum sponsors; Ponderosa Lumber, Four Seasons Land Co., and Pagosa Springs Noon Rotary Club, Gold sponsors; Bank of Colorado and Old West Press, Silver sponsors; and The Rose Restaurant, Bronze sponsor. We would also like to thank the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, Leadfoot Ruthie, Larry Ashcraft, Larry Baisdon, Stephany Bouchier, everyone who kindly donated items for our auctions and everyone who volunteered. Your support and kindness are greatly appreciated as we work to eliminate substandard housing in Archuleta County.
The Elementary School Back-to-School Night was a huge success. Students and their families had dinner, toured the school, visited with classroom teachers and learned about school programs and volunteer opportunities. Hosting over 615 students and their families could not have been possible without the great help from volunteers from community organizations. While parent volunteers organize the event, volunteers from the community allow these parents to actually attend the event with their children.
Special thanks goes out to the Knights of Columbus members Ruben Mesa, Jan Ogletree, Barry Pavlovich, John Rasich and Father Carlos who barbequed up a storm! Kiwanis Club members Fred Bunney, Darryl Coster, Chili Fearon and his son Tyler, Ron Gustafson, Dan Howe, Larry Page, and Bob Pohly staffed the kitchen, beverage station and buffet line. Other kitchen volunteers included Mercedes Leist and Ronnie Doctor. Providing the set-up, cooking, serving, staffing during the event and clean-up, are all huge jobs for an event like this! Our faithful custodians Jack Constant and Raymond Taylor contributed to set-up and cleanup. We also appreciate the grill donation from Pagosa Land Company.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Elementary Adventure.

The Skaters Coalition for Concrete would like to thank the Pagosa Springs Town Council for their efforts in securing a place for the skateboard park. We appreciate your open-mindedness and all the time you have put into this project.
Also, we would like to thank Tom Carasello, Karin Kohake, Joanne Irons and David Mitchem for your hard work and support through this process; also Johnathan King, Charlie Hoch, and Mike Musgrove for your leadership and endless energy for raising funds and keeping us hopeful.
Getting a secure site is a huge milestone but we know we are not done; the hard work starts here. You can count on the Skaters Coalition for Concrete for support throughout the process. Thank you.
Our Savior Lutheran Preschool and school board would like to thank La Plata Electric Association for their continued support of our program. We were able to purchase a new vacuum, stepstools, wood chips and playground borders with the recent grant we were awarded. Thank you to the community for Rounding Up on your electric bills; those small donations really add up, and we feel so blessed to be able to use the funds in these tough economic times.
To Ron and Cindy
A card of thanks to Ron and Cindy Gustafson.
Patty and I love you, Ron, and Cindy. Since as far back as PPKM, we have always experienced you as a great, unbiased, gentle and warm voice in supporting and regarding local artists and the performing and fine arts in Pagosa Springs. Or, regarding, as our mutual friend John Porter once said about Pagosa over a decade ago, “ … the [arts] we have here in this one stoplight town.”
God Bless both of you with much (and you too, John).
Patty and Zach Nelson
We would like to publically thank everyone who participated in the balloon glow: The High County R/C Flying Club, Quest Aerospace, Mike Arbuthnot, Doug Dellmore, Lloyd Goheen, Dan Novea, Jack Peck, The San Juan Flyers, LDS Church Troop 800 and Aviation Venture Crew 809, and the Mounted Rangers.
A special thanks to our concessionaires: Degelman’s Red Wagon Grill, Tessie Garcia, Morning Rotary, Manuela Heaton, Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 807, R/C Club, Kim Siler, the members and friends of the Stevens Field Auxiliary.
We are also appreciative for the support from the Archuleta County Sheriff Department and Pagosa Springs police, the Pagosa Fire District and EMS. We enjoyed all the displays and demonstrations from the Tri-State Care Flight, Pagosa Springs police, county sheriffs, fire agencies, county search and rescue, county dive rescue team and EMS. We must not forget the handshakes and big “bear Hugs” from the U.S. Forest Service’s Smokey Bear. You are not just the folks we call when we are in trouble, have a fire emergency or a medical issue; you are the guardians of our community — the ones our children look up to. You are what they want to be. We appreciate you; you are our heroes.
