Beginning the week of September 21, Southwest Conservation Corps crews will be conducting a thinning project to reduce fire hazard and improve forest health on Forest Service land adjacent to Lake Hatcher Estates and Pagosa Highland Estates.
Crews will work daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m and will fall trees with chainsaws. For safety reasons, the treatment areas will be closed to public access while the crews are working.
Crews will cut small diameter ponderosa pine trees and some oak brush. Limbs and small logs will be piled for later burning.
The areas to be thinned are narrow strips between the Forest boundary and an area previously thinned and masticated with Hydro-axes (mowing machines). The treatment areas are adjacent to lots on Hills Circle, Cimarrona Circle and West Cotton Court.
