Specialist John Cartrette, of Pagosa Springs, currently serving a one-year tour in Afghanistan, was home last week on a two-week leave.
His mother, Cathy Decory, and Vicky Perales, mother of Specialist Logan Gholson, currently serving in Iraq, are starting a support group for local families that currently have a family member on active duty in our military.
The purpose of the group is to offer emotional support to, and share resources with, local families of active duty members, and to generally foster a sense of patriotism and respect for our armed forces.
Decory and Perales are seeking information concerning the whereabouts of current, local service members as well as news of re-enlistments, homecomings, births, deaths, engagements and wedding announcements for inclusion in a column in The SUN. They will also coordinate activities such as creating care packages to send to local members of the U.S. military.
If you are interested in joining the group, or have information, contact Decory at 903-5126, or Perales at 903-7678.
