“Natural Expressions” will close Tuesday, Sept. 15, but there is still time to stop at Town Park Gallery and view the varied works by local artists June Jurcak, Catherine Wagner, Ann Shurtleff and Elizabeth Claire Baldwin.
The gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Our next exhibit will be the Pagosa Springs Photo Club Juried Exhibit, which opens with an artist’s reception Thursday evening, September 17 from 5-7 p.m.
Trenholm pastel workshop
Lorraine Trenholm is teaching another pastel painting workshop — Sept. 15, 16 and 17.
Pastels Plus Technique will consist of two days of No Boundaries with Pastels and the third day will concentrate on developing your technique.
Cost of the class is: two days, $175 for non-PSAC members or $150 if PSAC member; a third day is an additional $75. There is a $25 supplies fee if you don’t have your own.

PMH and PSAC Juried Exhibit
Pagosa Mountain Hospital and Pagosa Springs Arts Council’s second collaborative Juried Art Exhibition and Silent Auction is on schedule for Oct. 17- Dec. 11, 2009.
This year’s opening and artists’ reception will be catered, and will feature keyboard entertainment by John Graves.
The art exhibit is seeking two-dimensional work from all artists 18 years old an up, residing in Archuleta County and surrounding areas served by the Pagosa Mountain Hospital.
Pieces selected for the exhibition must carry the flavor of our area, particularly positive energy. Art pieces submitted should demonstrate one or more characteristics listed: soothing, intriguing, uplifting, joyful, playful, exciting, colorful, hopeful, warm or inspirational. All works must be for sale and original in concept and execution.
Randall Davis, Buster Griggs and Kathleen Steventon have agreed to act as jurors and are eligible to enter the exhibition also. Deadline for artist’s submissions for this exhibition is Oct. 3.

Poetry writing with Bonnie Manion

Come join our half-day poetry writing workshop with Bonnie Manion and learn how to release your poet within. Bonnie speaks to each reader’s heart with her poetry.
An accomplished poet, Bonnie’s works have appeared in more than 30 journals. She is a member of the Illinois State Poetry (ISPS) Society, National Federation of Poetry Societies, the Poetry Society of America, The Academy of American Poets and the Poetry Foundation. She has been associated with St. David’s Christian Writers Association (SDCWA), Catholic Writers Association and The Society of American Poets. She has often been listed in Marquis “Who‘s Who In America” and Marquis’ “Who’s Who Among American Women,” as well as receiving the Peoria, Ill., Catholic Diocese’s highest lay award, the Pere Marquette Medal, in 2001.
This workshop will be held Monday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m.-noon at the community center. Cost is $25. Please call PSAC to register, 264-5020, and all proceeds will benefit PSAC.

The Pagosa Springs Photo Club Annual Show is scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Sept. 17, with an artists’ reception at PSAC Town Park Gallery. The exhibit includes 25 prints selected by juror Barry Durand, president of the Durango Photo Club. Thirteen photographers are represented. The public is invited to attend the opening and meet the photographers.
The Photography Club meets at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month during the club year from September through May. Interested photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend at no charge for the first meeting. Any and all are invited to join for annual dues of $20 for single individuals and $30 for family membership. Plein Air Painters
Plein Air Painters meet at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month at a predetermined location. On Sept. 17 we will meet at the pond behind the River Center. There are good spots to paint at either the pond or along the river. Please call Jean Smith, 264-6647, if you need more information.
Painters who work in any media are welcome. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share tips, ideas and resources. If the weather is nice, we paint outdoors. If the weather is bad we will paint in the community center Arts and Crafts Room. Please keep in mind that turpentine-based painting materials can not be used in the Community Center.
PSAC workshop calendar
The Pagosa Springs Arts Council sponsors and manages workshops in the Arts and Crafts Room at the Community Center. From the outset, the Arts Council has been a partner and supporter of the Community Center. All of the workshop classes are held in the Arts and Crafts Room of the community center. Started in 1988 the Pagosa Springs Arts Council, a non-profit organization, was conceived and developed to, in part, promote the awareness of the vast array of local artistic talent, provide educational and cultural activities in the community, sponsor exhibits and workshops by local and regional artists and encourage and support continued appreciation and preservation of the aesthetic beauty of Pagosa Springs.
