Joseph Billy Chavez of Fountain, Colo., passed away Aug. 23, 2009.
Billy, as he was called by many who knew him, was born to Daisy and Eloisa Chavez on Nov. 1, 1949. Billy worked in HVAC for over 30 years; he enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his sons Demetrio Joe “DJ” (Nacona) Chavez of Pagosa Springs and Dominic D. Chavez of Colorado Springs, and by stepdaughter, Lisa Mestas also of Colorado Springs; a brother Herman (Patty) Chavez, of Colorado Springs; sisters Darlene (Joe) O’Brien of Chandler, Ariz., Henrietta (Emilliano) Martinez of Farmington, N.M., and Leora (Luis) Mannara of Pagosa Springs; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Eloisa Chavez; sisters, Virginia Chavez and Julia Trujillo; brothers Joe, Demetrio and Steve Chavez, also of Pagosa Springs. Billy was a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandpa and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.
Rosary will be held on Thursday Aug. 27, 2009, at 7 p.m. at John Paul II Catholic Church. Services will be held Friday Aug. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Burial will take place at Hilltop Cemetery, with a dinner following at the Catholic Parish Hall.
