Pagosan competes at National High School Rodeo Finals

Pagosa Springs High School rodeo rider Katelyn McRee recently competed in the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, bringing home the honor of eighth-place “Rookie of the Year.”

During the seven-day event, McRee rode against 160 competitors in pole bending and, after the dust settled, placed 19th. In addition, McRee challenged 170 other riders in the barrel racing event, ultimately placing 25th there.

McRee is a freshman at Pagosa Springs High School and a member of the Basin High School Rodeo Team. The Basin High School Rodeo team includes students from Pagosa Springs, Bayfield, Ignacio and Durango.

The finals hosted 1375 contestants throughout the week from Australia, Canada and all over the U.S.
