Lorraine Trenholm and Chad Haspels have successfully teamed up in a co-exhibit, Balance and Chaos in Nature: Drawing on the Essence of Our World, which is currently showing at PSAC Town Park Gallery.
With Chad’s award-winning artistic background obviously expressed in his sculpture and Lorraine’s beautifully-rendered paintings and pastels, this exhibit is a must-see.
You can drop by Town Park Gallery Tuesday through Sunday from noon-4 p.m. The exhibit will run until Aug. 18.
Summer Youth Art Camp
The PSAC Summer Youth Art Camp, taught by Sabine Baeckmann-Elge, began Aug. 3.
We are looking forward to our second annual Birdhouse Public Art Project, benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County. Students will decorate birdhouses, which will be auctioned off at the Summer Youth Art Camp Exhibit. Time and place of the exhibit will be announced.
In addition to the birdhouse project students will learn watercolor techniques and explore three-dimensional design. The Art Camp is being held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug.3-21 in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Pagosa Springs Community Center. Call PSAC 264-5020 to register and pay for the class.
Field sketching and journaling
Try your hand at sketching outdoors, like an early naturalist combining a scientific eye with artistic beauty!
Pagosa Springs Arts Council premiers this beloved tradition pairing art and science, in a gentle ramble led by returning visiting artist Cynthia Padilla.
Cynthia is a painter of rare antique botanical maps and engravings and instructs painting and drawing courses at prestigious universities, science and nature centers, museums and arboreta across the United States, Canada and Central America.
You will work side by side as Cynthia demonstrates technique in simple, transportable materials, offers gentle critique and dispenses one-on-one tutelage. No previous art training is expected since drawing will be used as a tool for observation. You will emerge with a sketchbook journal of careful observations, quick scribbles, sparkling watercolor vignettes, collected ephemera, rubbings, notes and notations, diminutive landscapes, measurements and musings. All participants are welcome to later include their work in a non-juried exhibition curated by the instructor. Cost is $170 for PSAC members, $195 for non-members. The class will be held Aug. 25-26 from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Register now. Because this is a special “visiting artist” workshop, pre-registration is due now for the workshop to “go.” A deposit reserves your space and full payment is due before the start date. Weather does not cancel so there will be no refunds unless the workshop is not held. A supply list will be provided at registration, and be sure to bring a lunch.
Call PSAC at 264-5020 to register and pay for the class.
A certificate of attendance is recognized for continuing education hours for teachers, professional development, practical knowledge, volunteer hour applications, personal enrichment for gardeners, naturalists, friends of the environment, grants and proposals and educators desiring to integrate stimulating inquiry-based art/science/writing activities into the classroom. The certificate is for 11 contact hours.
In conjunction with the workshop, the public is invited to view a one-evening exhibit by Cynthia Padilla at the Pagosa Springs Community Center Arts and Crafts Room. Join the instructor and other workshop participants there for a“Meet and Greet” and discussion of the genre, Aug. 24 from 5-7 p.m.
Art in the Garden
Beautiful live music, fine art by talented regional artists working plein air, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and fine wine (cash bar). All in a delightful garden setting at El Rancho Pinoso on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 3-7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance at the Chamber of Commerce or the Plaid Pony.
The PSAC Gallery in Town Park is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. We hold exhibits every three and a half weeks, each preceded by an artists’ reception. You can also visit our Web site at www.pagosa-arts.com for additional information.
Members of the Pagosa Springs Photo Club will present a photo exhibit at PSAC Gallery, opening Sept. 17. This is a juried show. The juror is Barry Durand, president of the Durango Photo Club. Additional information and rules regarding the exhibit are provided on the PSAC Web site: www.photo-artiste.com/PSPCexhibit.com.
The club is in recess during the summer months, but meets on the second Wednesday of the Month from September through May. Regular meetings are held in the Arts and Crafts Room of the community center from 6-9 p.m.
The photo club is an excellent resource for learning new ideas and techniques through the monthly programs and interaction with members. In addition to scheduled programs and critiques, the club also provides activities such as field trips and sponsored exhibits. Nonmembers are eligible to participate in the upcoming PSAC exhibit by paying membership dues for the 2009-2010 club season.
Whether you are a beginner wishing to improve your photography or an accomplished photographer who wishes to share their experience and knowledge with others, please join us for the coming year. Membership rates are $20 for individual, $30 for family, and $10 for student. For further information please contact Barbara Conkey at 731-6877 or at email@example.com.
Plein Air Painters
