Youth baseball complete, tennis sessions continue

July 15 brought this year’s youth baseball season to a close, and the recreation department staff would like to congratulate the 9-10 Yankees and the 11-12 Red Sox for earning first place in their respective divisions.

More importantly, we would like to acknowledge this year’s coaches and sponsors for their voluntary contributions to another successful season. In the coach-pitch division, the following coaches are commended: Jimmy Henderson, Kody Hill, Darren Lewis, Josh Severs, Eddy Huddleston, Lisa Scott and Karen Ross.

In the 9-10 division, we recognize coaches Nate Bryant, Tim Miller, Paul Boyd, Torry Hessman, Brian Griego, Herman Gonzales, Kelly Miller, Joseph Garcia, Todd Miller, Scott Miller and Kurt Raymond.

In the 11-12 division, we thank coaches Steve Schofield, Dan Cammack, Scott Pierce, Scott Cunningham, Rich Goebel and Jerry Archuleta.

In addition, the following sponsors are recognized for their generous donations, which greatly offset the cost of providing team uniforms and equipment: Daylight Donuts, Design A Sign, Pagosa Feed and Nursery, Pagosa Quality Flooring, Timothy Miller Custom Homes, ReSport, Area Best Heating and Air, Ron and Cindy Gustafson and Scott Strategic Investments.

The dedication of the aforementioned individuals and businesses provided an enjoyable youth baseball season for nearly 200 young athletes; their effort and commitment remind us of how fortunate we are to have such citizens in our community.

Also, we would like to thank all of the players and their parents and guardians for dealing with rain-outs, juggling hectic schedules and taking the inevitable hurdles associated with youth sports programming in stride.

Thanks again to all of you for your continued sportsmanship, dedication and support.
