May 17, 1947 to June 8, 2009.

Steve Charles Skidmore died on June 8, 2009, in Pagosa Springs, Colo. He was the second child born to Charles E. Skidmore and Wila Virginia Skidmore in Santa Barbara, Calif. The family relocated in 1951 to Santee/El Cajon area where Steve attended Santee Elementary; his father was superintendent of the Santee School District. Steve enjoyed growing up in Santee/El Cajon pursuing his childhood hobby of building and racing homemade go carts and camping with family and friends. Steve was always known for his long, involved storytelling. Everyone listened in awe as he described his life experiences or fascinating people he had met. Steve attended Granite Hills High School and then continued on at Grossmont Community College.

Steve was drafted when he was 19 and became a Navy Seabee, serving in Vietnam in 1968. After he returned from duty, he became a flight instructor at Gillespie Field in El Cajon.

Steve was married in 1969 and had a son, Sean Skidmore. Both Steve and his son resided in Santa Barbara for a short time and then pursued their lifelong dreams together of ranching in Pagosa Springs.

Steve is survived by his son, Sean Skidmore; his mother, Virginia Skidmore; his brother, Douglas Skidmore and wife and two children, and his sister, Valerie Royal, and husband, two children and their three grandchildren.

Steve will be missed by his family and friends and for his zest for life and love of animals. The family will be conducting a family memorial service in the near future for family members.
