Rev. J.C. “Woody” Wood, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, N.M., for 25 years, and Pagosa Springs, Colo., for 23 years, went to live with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 8, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris; children, Judi Valdez and husband, Harold, June Madrid and husband, Butch, Jo Anna Valdez and husband Michael, and Ken Wood and wife, Carol; grandchildren, Dwayne Valdez and wife Alisha, Shelli Irizarry and husband, Ryan, Tracie Castillo, Ed Madrid and wife, Jennifer, Rich Valdez and wife, Davilyn, Phillip Valdez, Bobby Valdez and wife, Erica, Mikela Valdez, Danny Wood and wife, Andrea, Bradley Wood and wife, Renada, and Kendra Wood; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Hayley, Sierra, Skyler, Cameron, Kaylie, Whitney, Gracie, Daily, Lexie, Shayda, Danli, Quentin, Kennedy, Elija, Joel and Micah; and many other family and friends. Woody was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Wood, and his brother, Kenneth “Stumply” Wood.
He was born June 19, 1917, in Aspen, Colo. His family helped build Aspen and began the silver mining there. He was a United Methodist minister, retiring in 1977 in Pagosa Springs, Colo. Woody loved to fish, play dominoes and was an avid stamp collector. He and Doris both attended the Covenant United Methodist Church. Woody was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place, and as per Woody’s wishes, no service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant United Methodist Church, 8510 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113.
