On Friday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m., the Rt. Rev. Robert O’Neill, Episcopal Bishop of Colorado, will visit St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church to officially install The Rev. Douglas Neel as the church’s new rector.
Father Doug came to St. Patrick’s last September as the Priest-in-Charge, a position that is a transitional one for the church. Recently, however, the church’s vestry voted to make his position a permanent one, calling him to be their rector.
“I am honored to serve St. Patrick’s,” said Fr. Doug. “My family and I are blessed to be in this wonderful community.”
The service will be one of celebration, recognizing the many aspects of ministry Fr. Doug oversees as the church’s priest. In one portion of the liturgy, leaders of organizations in the church community will present him with symbols of the church’s ministry. The vestry will present him with keys to the church, the altar guild with a stole, the choir with a hymnal and prayer book, the outreach committee with a basket of food, along with other gifts from various church groups.
The celebration of Fr. Doug’s ministry will also welcome representatives from other churches in the community. Don Ford, minister at Community Methodist Church, will represent the Pagosa Outreach Connection.
The church’s choir also will be supplemented by members of choirs from several other churches in town.
“We feel that ministry is not limited to one congregation or church denomination,” said Fr. Doug. ”“I have enjoyed getting to know the clergy and the other dedicated Christians in our community and recognize the calling we all share to ‘Feed the flock.’”
St. Patrick’s is located at 225 N. Pagosa Blvd. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this celebration of ministry.
