Archuleta County Extension, along with the 4-H program, presents their fourth Fun in the Sun Summer Day Camp June 15-19.
This fun-filled summer day camp will be held at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The summer day camp is open to any youth (not just 4-H, so bring your cousins and friends) ages 8 to 13. A wide variety of classes are offered for all types of kids.
For information regarding the registration form, or for more information on camp, please contact Sandy at 264-5931.
During the day camp, kids will attend two “Fun-Shops” of their choice — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Kids will make a daily craft, and play tons of fun games.
The day camp will provide lunch each day, so get ready for some Italian, Mexican and American dishes, plus fresh fruit and a salad bar daily.
During the camp, the group will participate in games that include team building exercises, physical and mental challenges, and help with learning life skills for the future.
The cost of the Summer Day Camp is $120 for first-timers, $100 for current 4-H members, and $100 for those campers returning from last year. This includes lunch, snacks, crafts and all “Fun-Shop” materials needed, camp T-shirt, etc.
Camp size is limited to 40 campers so we recommend registering early to get the classes that you want.
County fair volunteers needed
We are currently seeking volunteers of all ages and abilities for the Archuleta County Fair on July 30 and 31, Aug. 1 and 2.
Without the help of our volunteers, the fair would not happen. If you are interested in lending us your talents and abilities, you may go online at www.archuletacountyfair.com to find a PDF version of our volunteer form, or contact the Extension Office at 264-2388.
4-H Livestock Record Book judges
The Archuleta County 4-H program is in need of Livestock Record Book judges.
We are asking for anyone who is familiar with 4-H and livestock to volunteer as a record book judge at the 2009 county fair.
The judging is two-fold: first you interview the 4-H member, then you judge their record book.
The interview process takes place at the Archuleta County Fair Sunday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to around 1 p.m. Each judge is assigned a species: beef, swine, sheep, goat, horse, turkey or rabbit. We will provide breakfast and lunch for all the judges that Sunday.
Prior to the fair, we hold judges’ orientation luncheon meeting with lunch provided by the 4-H program.
We try to limit the number of members for each judge to around 10. We are looking for three volunteers to judge swine, two each to judge beef, sheep, horse and goat, and one volunteer each to help judge rabbit and turkey. If you think this is something you are interested in, call Sandy at the Extension Office, 264-5931.
