The newest PSAC exhibit will open Thursday evening, May 28. At the Opening and Artists’ Reception you will be introduced to a book project entitled “Animal Verses for Grown-up Children,” written by John Graves and illustrated by Sabine Baeckmann-Elge.
Graves will treat the audience to a live reading from the book. The exhibit will also feature a representation of Baeckmann-Elge’s latest body of works entitled, “Animal Lines,” which are watercolors of animals in unique situations. The exhibit runs from May 28 through June 23 at the Pagosa Springs Arts Council’s Town Park Gallery. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
The exhibit opening and artists’ reception will be held May 28, 5-7 p.m. Musician Stephany Bouchier will play the classical guitar during the opening night.
Annual membership meeting
The annual PSAC membership dinner meeting was held Wednesday, May 20, at Nello’s Bistro.
Our patrons were privileged to view the unveiling of two major art projects sponsored by the Arts Council.
The first is the Mural on Main Project by artists Jeffry Haas and Hayley Goodman, assisted by three high school art students: Jacob Farber, Betsy Schur and Rachel E. Jensen.
The second was the representation of the three trees that will be sculpted as part of the Pagosa Springs Mountain Hospital Tree Carving Project by artist Chad Haspels.
We would like to thank all who attended for their support and generous donations. We would also like to thank Daniela Carr of Nello’s Bistro for the most delectable hors d’ouevres and gracious service, as well as John Graves and Friends for very enjoyable jazz entertainment.
Randall Davis Portrait Series
The portrait series, led by Randall Davis, finishes May 30. You will draw from a live model and the class will be especially interesting as we will be doing several posed sketches. We need a minimum of 6 people pre-registered in order to hire the model. The cost for the class is $35, plus an extra fee of $8-$10 for the model, and we ask that you call PSAC at 265-5020 to register.
The Photography Club meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. during the club year, September through May. Interested photography enthusiasts are welcome to attend at no charge for the first meeting. Any and all are invited to join for annual dues of $20 for single individuals and $30 for family membership. For more information, contact Barbara Conkey at email@example.com or 731-6877.

Plein Air Painters
Plein Air Painters meet the third Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at a predetermined location. Painters who work in any media are welcome. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share tips, ideas and resources. If the weather is nice, we paint outdoors. If the weather is bad we will paint in the Arts and Crafts Room.
