Piecemakers create cards for Wounded Warriors, meeting date changed

Recently, a small group from the Pagosa Piecemakers Quilt Guild gathered to create scenic and patriotic quilted postcards. These cards will be presented to the Wounded Warriors as part of the Chamber welcome to these soldiers upon their arrival in Pagosa Springs next week.

The quilt guild’s June meeting has been moved to Saturday, June 6, to accommodate a scheduling conflict at the church.

The program for the June 6 meeting will be the unveiling of the quilts created as a result of the guild’s “Ugly Fabric Challenge.”

In this challenge, members were encouraged to bring a piece of “ugly” fabric to the December meeting. These pieces of fabric were exchanged, sight unseen. The quilters were then challenged to use this fabric to create a quilt with a perimeter measurement of less than 160 inches.

Quilts are due by June 4 and will be displayed at the guild’s June 6 meeting. Members and visitors will vote on their favorite creation and the winners will receive cash prizes.

The “Ugly Fabric Quilts” will also be displayed at the Archuleta County Fair in August where the general public will be encouraged to vote on their favorite quilt. Prizes will be awarded to the winning quilters.

The guild meeting will be held on Saturday, June 6, at the Mountain Heights Baptist Church. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Dues of $3 are requested at each meeting to defray expenses of the guild. The public and any interested quilters are welcome to attend.
