The Pagosa Springs Women’s Golf Association featured a “Pick Your Best Nine” format for its opening league day Tuesday, May 5.
Immediately following a welcome coffee and short meeting hosted by President Audrey Johnson, 17 members played the Meadows and Pinon courses, rated at par 72. At the end of the round, each player was entitled to choose her best scores from two par 5s, two par 3s and five par 4s, from the entire 18 holes played. Each player then subtracted one-half of her handicap from the total for her net aggregate score for the nine holes she chose.
Lynne Allison and Donna Gregory tied for first place, each with a 29.5; second went to Loretta Campuzano with a 30.5; Kay Crumpton was third with a 31; Cherry O’Donnell fourth, with a 31.5; and fifth place went to Sheila Rogers with a 32.
Traveling team captain Cherry O’Donnell announced that the first match play for the season is slated for Thursday, May 21, at Aztec Hidden Valley Golf Club. All league members interested in competing in this first match play event should sign up in the ladies’ locker room.
