Local musicians to join renowned trumpeter Chris Lawson in Pagosa concert

Pagosa Springs Music Boosters is proud and excited to announce the start of their 2009 20th anniversary celebration with a unique musical concert in May starring internationally-known trumpeter Chris Lawson supported by our own local musicians extraordinaire!

One of the “workingest” freelance musicians in the country, Chris stays constantly on the go playing trumpet and singing on cruise ships in Hawaii and the Caribbean to soloing with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra — to gettin’ down and dirty in a jazz club.

He is first call on numerous show lists in Colorado and has performed with such names as Bob Hope, Tony Bennett, Doc Severinson, Arturo Sandoval, Mel Torme, John Denver, Sarah Vaughn, Wayne Newton, Linda Rondstadt, Manhattan Transfer, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Four Freshmen, Yes, War, The Colorado Symphony and many more.

“Jazzers” he has worked with include Bobby Shew, Bill Watrous, Carl Fontana, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Chuck Findlay, Frank Mantooth, Glen Miller Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, both Dorsey Bands and many more.

A highlight of Chris’ career was soloing twice with Arturo Sandoval.  He has considerable recording experience and is featured on a recently-released CD called “Start of Something Big,” with Bobby Marchetti.  Chris is especially well known for his high-note or “lead” chops, but he is as comfortable playing for a church service on Sunday morning as he is soloing with The Neophonic Jazz Orchestra.

Local musicians who will be performing with Chris are  Sue Anderson, piano; John Graves, piano; Dan Burch, bass; Jerome Osmialowski, drums; Bob Nordman, alto sax; Bob Hemenger, tenor sax; Bill Bottschalk, baritone sax; Larry Elginer, trumpet; Larry Baisdon, trumpet; Sue Gottschalk, trumpet; and Shawna Carosello, trombone.  We anticipate an extraordinary learning and giving experience amongst our students, community musicians and professionals.

Concert dates are May 2 at 7 p.m., with a special matinee performance on May 3 at 2 p.m., Both performances will take place in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.  Open seating tickets will be available at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center starting April 20, and at the door prior to performances.

In order to allow everyone the opportunity to attend the concert, Music Boosters is offering special pricing for this concert: $10 for adults and $5 for students.  All proceeds benefit Music Boosters’ college scholarship program.  Come on out and help us raise the roof with the music of Chris Lawson and our own!
