Bedazzle and Bling is the theme Thursday, March 19, at Nello’s Bistro, to benefit the Archuleta County Victims Assistance Program.
The second annual “women only” night out auction will be hosted by Danielle Carr, owner of Nello’s Bistro (formerly La Tazza),who will provide wonderful food and have special drinks at the cash bar for the guests to enjoy.
Mary McKeehan and Dee McPeek are the dazzling auctioneers for the evening. Items with a hint of bling will be available in silent and live auctions. Items are being donated now and donations can be made by calling 264-9075 or 946-7545.
Kim Hamilton, of the Decorating Lady, is one of the sponsors of the event and she will help decorate with bling and sparkle. Women are encouraged to have fun dressing up for the bedazzling event.
With domestic violence becoming more and more a discussion in the community, this event will help bring women together, many of whom have been affected by some form of domestic violence. Domestic violence many times is a “family secret” that manifests itself in different ways. Domestic violence can happen to anyone — male or female, young or old.
Domestic violence knows no boundaries. It occurs across cultures, and regardless of economic status.
Women are six times as likely as men to experience intimate partner violence. The Bureau Justice Statistics reports 5 to 1, women to men, cases of intimate partner violence. For some of us these numbers are hard to believe, and to others it is their reality. We can make a difference in Archuleta County with respect to domestic violence.
