Trout Unlimited accepting youth camp applications

Durango’s Five Rivers Chapter of Trout Unlimited is currently accepting applications from youth ages 14-18 for the fourth annual River Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp.

The camp will be held June 7-12 at Peace Ranch, near Basalt.

Applications must be received by March 30, 2009.

The camp is designed to educate students on the importance of coldwater conservation and provides hands-on fly fishing instruction as well.

Applicants should be interested in college studies focusing on natural resource management, fisheries biology, or aquatic biology. Approximately 20 students are selected each year statewide, based on qualifications and a written essay on why they would like to attend the camp. The Five Rivers chapter of Trout Unlimited will send one applicant from the local area.

Applicants may get more information and the application from www.cotrout.org. The Five Rivers chapter of Trout Unlimited will pay the cost, normally $450, for the local applicant who is chosen to attend.

Questions can be directed to Ty Churchwell at (970) 903-3010.
