The Drama Club at Pagosa Springs High School has taken on another challenge this month as members rehearse for this year’s one-act production. The organization of drama students is known for its selection and interpretation of plays that are difficult in performance, choice and relevance, and the current selection reflects the same.
“Faces of Freedom,” by Cynthia Mercati, uses both an ensemble presentation and individual monologues to tell the true stories of young immigrants of today and yesterday, coming to this country from varied lands: Russian, Italy, Vietnam, El Salvador, Mexico, Germany, Afghanistan, Bosnia. The play explores their stories and their searches for freedom in a new country.
This is the second of Cynthia Mercati’s plays to be presented at the high school.Several years ago, the drama club won top honors for “The Strength of Our Spirit, The Story of Anne Frank.”
Our cast for the upcoming play includes Emmi Greer, Ami Harbison, Sean Vick, Rhain Harris, Jeff Reardon, Ina Meininghaus, Zach Shivers, Jordin Frey, Robert Neel, Trace Gross, Britney Siler and Jared Burch.
“Faces of Freedom” will be performed on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium, one performance only. For further information, call Dale Morris, 731-3370.
