“A Classic Christmas” is a colorful concert of Christmas songs and classic melodies to rekindle the holiday spirit, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse.
The concert — sponsored by Elation Center for the Arts — presents the joyful music of the Pagosa Brass Quartet, the Pagosa Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Four the Good Times, John Graves, Larry Elginer, Matthew and Tiffany Brunson, Mark DeVoti, June Marquez, Bob Nordmann, Sue Diffee, Jessica Trujillo, Perry Schjolin, Ayriana Rackham, Iris Grad, Harvey Schwartz, Julie Loar, Nancy Smith, Paula McFaddin, Pat French, and Carl and Gloria Macht.
From Larry Elginer, we can expect virtuoso jazz trumpet music ringing through the mountains, great vocals and comic opera. Elginer plays a dual role of emcee and musician in the holiday concert celebration.
Elginer is a singer, trumpet player, musician, teacher, comedian, actor and dancer. He is the director of the Pagosa Community Choir and the Pagosa Jazz Vocal Ensembles.
Elginer has devoted his life to conducting and performing with concert bands, orchestras, jazz bands and choirs. He possesses the astounding ability to teach all orchestra and band instruments. He directed one of the top-ranking school music programs in the U.S for 38 years.
“For me, the passion for playing music has always been very strong,” said Elginer. A trumpet solo he performed at age 11, in Greeley, Colo., got the ball rolling for him. His parents recognized that he was blessed with a musical gift and they encouraged his aspirations.
“I feel that music has so much to offer in our lives, whether it’s through the schools or after school, whether you do it through the community, professionally or recreationally,” said Elginer. “I really feel strongly about music. Music is such a creative force. Music reaches the soul.”
Advance tickets to “A Classic Christmas” are $10, available online at elationarts.org and at Higher Grounds Coffee Company. Tickets at the door are $12. Young people, 18 and under, will be admitted free of charge.
