High Country Squares to graduate new dancers

Graduation of new dancers and a Harvest Dance is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave.

This dance is open to all experienced square dancers, so come on out and dance with us. This will be the last dance Jim Park calls for the High County Squares as Jim and Fae will be taking off to warmer climates in Mesa, Ariz. We will truly miss them, but will continue dancing until they return in the spring with the help of Louis Norton of Durango, Lloyd Husted of Farmington, and Richard Berry of Cortez. These three callers will be doing a rotating schedule for the High Country Squares throughout the winter months.

The members of the High Country Squares have just received their official square dance badges. The badge took some time to design and choose just the right look, but Mike Holly of Albuquerque did a great job in creating just what they wanted. Mike personally brought the new badges up to Pagosa and joined the members in dancing and calling a few tips at their regular dance last week. It was great for all the members to meet Mike and especially interesting for Jim Hawkins, as Mike Holly’s father was his mentor, teaching Jim to call square dances.

A big thanks to Judy and John for hosting a fantastic Halloween Barn Dance and Potluck at their new barn on Easy Street. Great fun, great food, great friends, and great dancing. It has been really great to see the bonding of the core group of dancers who attend all the club’s functions.

The High Country Squares dance on Mondays, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with Mainstream Review for the first hour. Introduction to Plus follows, then some great dancing. The club will only dance twice in December — Dec. 1 and 15 — due to the availability of the hall and the holiday. All experienced square dancers are invited to attend any of their dances.
