SHY RABBIT offers Basic Ceramic Techniques class

If you are interested in working in clay, but have little or no experience with the medium, then this class for novice level clay students is the course for you.

The two-day workshop will acquaint students with the clay forming process, and will also cover basic glazing procedures.

Beginners and those with no experience are encouraged to take the class. Those with clay experience will benefit from learning and practicing unique techniques developed over the course of more than 15 years by workshop instructor D. Michael Coffee.

Basic Ceramic Techniques and Hand-Building I will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1 and 2. The workshop fee is $215, and includes all materials, glazes, firings, and a tool kit that participants may keep for future use.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity, as class sizes are kept small to provide individualized attention and will fill quickly.

Comments from a previous workshop participant:

“It takes a gifted teacher to make every student, no matter what level, feel excited about what they are producing. Michael has a great way of homing right in on the strengths of a piece. Imagine being guaranteed that you will come away from a class being jazzed about skills, vision, or whatever that you did not even know you had. His technique is compelling. Results are quick. It is very creative, all absorbing, play.”

This two-day introductory workshop focuses on hand forming, texturing, and assembling clay, all without the use of a potter’s wheel or other equipment. Students are introduced to coil, pinch, and slab methods of construction.

All workshops are held in SHY RABBIT’s comfortable 1,000 square-foot mixed media studio, and are instructed by professional artist and ceramist D. Michael Coffee. Coffee is known for his easy teaching manner, and for his ability to inspire creativity in the more than 130 students that have participated in his classes thus far.
