Joseph Chipps passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, from complications of lung cancer. Joe was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Saint Joseph, Mo., to Carl and Wilma Chipps, who preceded him in death.
Joe graduated from Central High School in Saint Joseph in 1947, and the University of Missouri in 1955. On July 3, 1955, he married Marilyn Kelso.
During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force as an Air Cadet pilot. Joe was a man of many talents — art, music and a wonderful sense of humor. Joe was involved in many forms of sales throughout his working years including insurance, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and Chipps Decorating Center which he owned and operated in Denver, Colo.
In 1996, Joe and Marilyn retired and built their home in Pagosa Springs, Colo. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Kirk Chipps, of Pagosa Springs, Martin Chipps and wife, Rebecca, of Wheatridge, Colo., Eric Chipps and wife, Jennifer, of Seattle, Wash.åœ; grandchildren, Ryan Chipps and Andrea Chipps, of Denver, Colo., Abigail Chipps, of Seattle, Wash., Trudi Opheim, of Norway; and sister, Carole Carlson of Anderson, Ind.
Joe was laid to rest in Fort Logan National Veterans Cemetery in Denver, Colo. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Denver.
