In last week’s editorial, you made a great point about campaign supporters identifying themselves. And it got me thinking about disturbing stories I’ve heard since moving here. Town residents have been told that others know how they vote.
I’ve repeatedly heard that people in our town have opinions, but they’re afraid to state them publicly for fear of retaliation. If people are worried about their votes being known to others, I hope they keep in mind that once a ballot is marked and dropped into the election box, no one can identify how that person voted. There are no names or identifying numbers. The process is completely anonymous.
With an issue as important as Reservoir Hill, I hope there will be a strong voter turnout on Tuesday. I also hope that town residents will feel confident voting their beliefs, not their fears.
