Amber Onello, who recently graduated from Pagosa Springs High School, has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation. She is one of six students from throughout Colorado who have been awarded $5,000 college scholarships from the foundation.
Onello will enter the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs this fall to study criminal justice. In her scholarship application, she said she plans to minor in psychology to help her obtain her career goal of becoming a correctional treatment specialist.
Onello was active in extracurricular activities while she was in high school, including mentoring female middle school students and participating in Key Club and her church youth group.
Commenting on her scholarship, foundation chairperson Doug Schneider said, “The foundation is very pleased to support her and the five other scholarship recipients. They clearly have demonstrated a commitment to leverage their education to build a better future for Colorado communities.”
