Join the Weminuche Audubon Society for its April meeting on Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m., at the Methodist Church on Lewis Street.
This month, we explore the world of those creatures of the night: bats. Refreshments will be served for socializing prior to the meeting.
Following a short business meeting at 6:30 p.m., Mylea Bayless with Bat Conservation International (BCI) will present our program on these fascinating animals.
Bayless has been with BCI since 2006 and leads the conservation team in the United States and Canada. The mission of this worldwide organization is “Conserving the world’s bats and their ecosystems to insure a healthy planet.”
Worldwide, there are over 1,300 species of bats. Many are imperiled by threats, including habitat loss (caves and mature trees for roosting), drought, wind turbine collisions and disease.
According to BCI, bats are: “important, threatened, misunderstood, everywhere and cool.” Find out why and how you can help protect them.
Her presentation will give us an appreciation of these mammals as they migrate back for the summer.
Audubon meetings are open to the public. We encourage attendees to donate nonperishable food items to add to the Methodist Church food bank as a thank you for the use of our meeting space. For more information, call Jean Zirnhelt at 731-2985.
