2019/02/obit-Paul-f-Hogue-203x300.jpgLongtime Pagosa Springs resident Paul F. Hogue, 71, died Feb.17 at his home.
Paul was born Jan. 4, 1948, in Monte Vista, Colo., to Rex and Virginia Divine Hogue. He was raised in Alamosa, Colo., and served eight years in the Army National Guard.
His first marriage to Linda Pettengill produced two wonderful daughters. During this time, Paul worked for the Coors brewery as a welder. When it was time to come back to southern Colorado, Paul went to work for Hogue’s Glass in Alamosa. In the early ‘80s, Paul moved to Pagosa Springs and started his own Hogue’s Glass. In 1987, he married his wife, Shellie Christensen Hogue, who joined him as a partner in the Hogue’s Glass shop. Most of Paul’s working career was self-employment.
Paul loved music and dancing and met his wife in the old “Goldmine Bar” while out dancing. After the bar burned down, Paul and Shellie bought the property and built the building that would house Hogue’s Glass. Paul never missed an opportunity to be near water. Fishing was his passion, diving and snorkeling was joy. He loved hunting and horses and spent much of his free time with them in the San Juan Mountains. Paul lived life on his own terms and passed on his own terms, just as he wanted. He will forever be remembered with a warm smile (or ornery grin) and a laugh to share.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Virginia Hogue, and many other loved ones who dance through Heaven with him now.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Shellie Hogue; two daughters Krista (Jason) Cowan and Kendra Hogue; grandchildren Trevor, Micah, Tylor, Kali (Brody) Bloom, Staisha, Tegan, Christopher and Jadin; great-grandson Lane; brother Roger (Mary Jo Merkley) Hogue; sister in-law Susan Sieben; his best friend of 25 years, Kermit Littleton; also, many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul wished to be cremated and did not want any services held. He wanted his passing to be simple and no fuss, just as he lived his life. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
