Special to The PREVIEW

Join musician and music therapist Paul Roberts for a free hand-drumming class at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at noon.

The class offers a welcoming environment that encourages fun, creativity, playfulness and connecting with others.

As an integrally harmonizing aspect of earlier societies, musical involvement was all-inclusive, a gift for everyone to share.

Music is a unique medium for evoking emotion, imagery and memory. As an important resource for emotional stimulation and expression, participation in musical activities can vitalize the body and mind, providing a highly pleasurable means of achieving a sense of meaning, coherence and equanimity.

Music provides an ideal channel for raising the quality of our lives. Creating positive states of well-being, through music, we can build social networks, energize our lives, promote health and mutual caring, humanize our communities and institutions, and prepare ourselves to cope with an increasingly technologized world.

The hand-drumming class is an opportunity to develop a one’s innate sense of musical expression. Designed as an opportunity for people of all ages to unleash their creativity, the drumming class is a family-friendly activity. No previous experience is necessary. Drums are provided for those who do not have one.
